This interesting overdoor panel with a painting at the center is from the 1700’s. It would have been mounted over a doorway in a painted boiserie or paneled room that would have had the same colors throughout the room. Today they are still used for the same purpose; or, they are used as pieces of art and placed upon a wall. The painted scenes features an Eagle with two shields beneath each wing. This overdoor panel will be a wonderful focal point wherever it is placed.
CONDITION: Old restorations; craquelure to paint; age separations, chipping to scenes and paint; nicks, rubs, and minor losses of wood all commensurate with age.
