Antique Carved Oak Armorial Bull Heads Plaque, 19th Century

This hand carved armorial plaque dates to the late 1800s and is made from European Oak. The top of the plaque is a crown decorated with flowers and berries which rests upon an oval shield having a diagonal band of three bull heads. Cattle are still the primary measure of wealth for many people around the world and the male animal of the species, the bull, has been equated with kingly power and wealth in many cultures. Many European families used the Bull on their coat of arms for centuries. On either side of the central shield of this plaque are scrolling acanthus leaf foliage surrounds, which end in large C-Scrolls.  This all rests upon a short rectangular platform having more acanthus leaves to either side. This elegant antique hand carved plaque will definitely be a focal point wherever it is placed.

CONDITION:  Very good antique condition with minor abrasions to wood. Old restoration as seen on back in photos.
