Antique Forged Iron Transom from France, Aix-En-Provence, 18th Century

From Provence, this graceful, scrolling iron, transom/overdoor gate is in the shape of a demi-lune. At the bottom is another demi-lune with a cartouche featuring more c-scrolls and a triangle outline. These gates were originally used in different ways: either as the upper portion of a double gate, or alone as a protection for a demi- lune shaped overdoor glass or transom. Versatile in its uses, today, a beautiful ironwork such as this can be used as interior or exterior overdoors, wall-mounted art, headboards, or even mounted as a console table. This is an excellent example of fine iron work from France during the 1700s.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition with small losses to leaf motifs.
