Antique French Carved Oak Bust of Dante, 19th Century

This antique bust of Dante Degli Alighieri (1265-1321) has been carved out of French oak. Dante was an Italian poet and philosopher, best known for the poem, The Divine Comedy. This poem is often considered the greatest work of literature composed in Italian. It represents the Christian after life of purgatory, heaven, and hell, and it is thought to be a philosophical Christian vision of man’s eternal fate. The bust is hand carved in sections of solid oak and dates to the late 1800s. He is portrayed much like he always is, with his tight fitting plated hood and earflaps. Botticelli painted him like this in 1495. Placed upon any wonderful surface, this antique French bust of Dante will be a fabulous accessory.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition with minor age separations and rubs and nicks.
