Pair of Small Antique French Silvered Bronze Busts on Marble Bases, Circa 1890

These French silvered bronze busts date to end of the 19th century and feature the signature "A. Carrier Belleuse". Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a celebrated French sculptor in the late 1800's. As a founding member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honour. The attribution as sculptor goes to Belleuse, but we also see the name PINEDO. Pinedo was the French foundry that produced them. These bright silvered busts of a man and a woman, are on indented round bases resting upon a square rouge marble platform. The woman is glancing over to one side, and her hair is tied back with a strap with portions of her hair falling over her shoulders.  She is wearing a draped blouse that is tied at the back of her waist.
The gentleman, also is glancing over to one side. has the same expression.  His curly hair, near shoulder length, sits above a wide shirt collar.  Each bust is one foot tall.

This beautiful pair of antique French silver over bronze busts will highlight any area they are placed in.
