Pair of Antique French Plaster Plaques Representing Spring and Fall, J. Mondon 1897

This unique pair of plaster, gros relief floral bouquets represent and spring and fall. They are framed in oval mottled jade colored frames with convex glass. Spring is represented by budding flowers, vines, and roses, while Fall is represented by wheat, corn, nuts, and more. The plaster work on each is highly detailed and realistic. Each plaque is signed by J. Mondon and dated 1897.

Provenance: The writing on the back of the fall plaque indicates that these two were from a collection owned by a famous French hairdresser, Alexandre de Paris or Louis Alexandre Raimon, 1922-2008. Known for creating the famous chignon as an art form in 1946, his clientele was royalty, notable political women as well as famous Hollywood stars. To name a few: The Duchess of Windsor, who introduced him to a long list of international aristocracy as he was starting out; Princess Grace of Monaco, Jacqueline Kennedy, King Hassan II and the Queen of Jordan, actresses Elizabeth Taylor, Tippi Hedren, Audrey Hepburn, Lauren Bacall, Greta Garbo, Liza Minnelli and many more.

CONDITION: Good condition with some restoration to frame (old chips, filled and colored). Minor wear throughout.
