Pair of Late 19th Century Carved Oak Shells from France

This pair of decorative motifs is in a stylized form of acanthus leaf shells.  They are most often part of another more elaborate architectural piece.   This motif is often seen at the top center of the design, with floral and foliate scrolling rinceau on either side. The shells have been carved out single pieces of oak. Today, they can be attached to a wall or placed on a holder as a decorative accessory. 

CONDITION:  Tiny nail holes in both, and slightly different tones to stain
