Yellow Glazed Antique French Terracotta Confit Pot

Early 1900s

This colorful vessel is a French confit pot made from earthenware with a glazed upper portion. Originally these pots were used for the storing and preservation of duck and goose in their own fat. There was no refrigeration at the time, so after cooking, they would be stored away for future use in these pots. The pots came in various sizes and colors, but the classic color, is this mustard yellow. Today, confit pots are used as colorful decorative pieces or as vases for dried flowers.
