17th Century Carved Wooden Statue from France

This magnificent antique French carved statue is of a grieving Virgin Mary and dates to circa 1660. The carving is very meticulous and to scale, as shown by the placement of the multiple folds in her robe.  The carver knew where to create the draping throughout the statue.  Her face has been depicted with tears falling from both eyes.  It was in the 15th and 16th centuries when Mary started to sometimes be represented in art without her son. She is usually depicted expressing grief and love. The back of this statue was attached to a support of some kind at one point in its history as shown in the photos.
