Spanish Carved Giltwood Eagle, 18th Century

From Spain, this impressive hand carved eagle dates to the 1700’s.  Most likely it was part of an architectural, more specifically a larger heraldic crest or carving. Eagles represent strength and immortality and have been depicted in art and sculpture since antiquity. The position of this eagles' claws indicates there may have been something he was holding on to.  He is in wonderful proportion and could be hung upon a wall (hook on back already installed) or placed in on a display stand as a piece of sculptural art.

CONDITION:  Good antique condition with chips to gilding, staining and rubs to wood.
