Antique Painted Jumping Horse from Northern France, Circa 1900

This antique parcel paint horse from Northern France has been mounted on a contemporary metal stand. His eyes are made from glass and are gold in color, and around his breastplate are wonderful glass jewels in various colors. The horse also has rings for his reins at his mouth and metal mounts for his saddle. Thin nailed down strips of metal run along the top of its back, under its stomach and laterally across his chest.

Since there is no top hole seen on this statue, it's unlikely that it was a carousel horse. However, it may have been a track machine horse, which was a smaller, more portable carousel fair ride. These horses were usually only attached at the bottom. This antique blue painted French horse will be a wonderful accessory for a child’s room or any room needing a colorful and fun piece.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with chips to wood and paint, with old restorations to legs and tail; Old woodworm holes and one jewel missing. Paint finish is not original.
