Pair of Blue and White Majolica Platters from Florence Italy, Early 1900s

This pair of Italian, blue and white platters has been hand-painted depicting similar scenes. We see cherubs, fantastical sea creatures, and Neptune, Roman God of the Sea.  In the background on one of the hills are castles surrounded by trees and foliage. On each platter is hand painted foliage that extends a majority of the way around the border. The wide peripheral banks of the platters are rippled, which shows movement and plays off the light very well. The backs of both of these plates is painted with foliate motifs. This permits them to be displayed on a clear acrylic stands as works of art, as we have them in the photos below. Each plate also comes with a wire surround for wall hanging. From Florence, these beautiful platters will be admired wherever they are placed.

CONDITION: Minor chips to edges of both platters.

Diameter=18 5/8, Height=2 3/4
