19th Century Bronze Mounted Barbotine Cachepot from France

From France, this bronze mounted gros relief barbotine cachepot dates to around 1880.  Barbotine is France‚Äôs complement to Majolica.  A certain type of clay, Kaolin, is used in the making of barbotine. Kaolin allowed the sculptor to form paper thin petals and leaves. The entire process from beginning to end was painstakingly difficult.  The highly detailed bronze mounts were added after the vessel was finished.  The ground color of the piece is a mottled brown with highlights of ochre and tan. Everything from buds to large open flowers are displayed on the cachepot. There is an initial D on its bottom. Beautiful to study, this bronze mounted barbotine cachepot will add a colorful touch to any vitrine of tabletop.

CONDITION: Very good overall condition with minor losses to petals and leaves.
