18th Century Italian Majolica Fountain Body/Urn

This charming, hand painted, Italian majolica urn is actually the body of a water fountain/vessel. The water comes out of the yellow mascaron’s mouth which is at the base of the urn. It would have had a bronze spigot of some sort.  Depending upon where is was situated, it would have had a basin to drain into.  It dates to 1720 and depicts a family tending to their animals in a field.  The main colors are blue, white, and yellow, and the handles are in the form of snakes on either side, with mascarons beneath.  On the back in large letters, it is signed, A. G. R. with 1720 beneath.  This is surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves on either side. This large and colorful urn will make a wonderful accessory, and will be the highlight of wherever it is placed.

CONDITION:  Some Chips, abrasions, minor losses to motifs, all commensurate with age and use.
