Large Antique Hand Painted Majolica Platter from Italy Circa 1860

This beautifully hand painted Italian Majolica Plate is made of tin glazed earthenware.  It dates to the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1860.  The mythological scene is one of celebration, with a gentleman blowing a horn and a lady behind him shaking a tambourine. Around the center scene is a linear motif of palmettes. The outermost border of the plate has a woman’s face with a crown and C-Scrolls.  Two putti holding flowers are flanking her face, while at the bottom of the plate, is a stylized shell surrounded by C-Scrolls and acanthus leaves. The rest of the border features putti and cherubs holding flowers surrounded by more flowers and stylized scrolls.  A solid linear border is on the outside, and metal holder has been attached to the back of the plate. This large and colorful Italian Majolica plate will be the highlight of any area.
