19th Century Italian Majolica Fountain Body/Vase

This colorful antique Italian Majolica vase dates to the 1800's. This type of pottery was first produced during the Italian Renaissance, and it often depicted historical and mythological scenes. This vase has a mascaron motif with an opening in its mouth. This means that it was created as fountain or water vessel, and liquid would have been released from a bronze spout emanating from the mascaron, into a basin beneath.  There are four oval, hand painted, scenes outlined by different raised relief floral and foliate motifs.  The neck and pedestal each have various motifs of painted figures, flowers, cherubs and more. The vase is signed on the bottom.  From Italy, this fabulous hand painted vase will be an attractive focal point anywhere in the home.

CONDITION: Good overall antique condition with old restorations to area between the body and base. Old restorations to cracks in areas. Minor rubs and nicks.
